Death Card Year - An interactive art installation

Join multi-modal artist Solasta McIntyre Ethridge as they explore altars as archives, dreams as reality, and the light & shadow of embodied ancestral connection through deep death times. Experience their stories from their Death Card Year (2021ish) and walk away with your own embodied sense of what it means to die in order to live.

Solasta’s work the past two years has evolved beyond movement art to include painting, film, poetry, altar making, audio documentation and archival exploration. The themes of childhood, gender, sexuality, relationship, lineage and resource are at the crux of their storytelling through a queer abolitionist perspective.

Due to its intimate and raw nature, the installation is being shown by appointment only at an undisclosed location in the Oakland Hills. Attendees will have the opportunity to engage with the work as witnesser and be witnessed in their own process with the installation should they choose. Altars, films, paintings and more will be installed throughout the house, and pen/paper will be supplied for self-reflective journaling. They’ll be snacks too of course.

No matter how long you’ve known Solasta, they invite you into their space to process endings as beginnings as forever together - with or without words. The event holds space for what we’ve all been through these past two years and acts as a goodbye for now before they move to their hometown of Chappaqua, New York just outside NYC.
