Five Podcasts for the FPJ Five Key Channels of Change
Hey loves - giving you auditory goodies to relax to in bed, in the bath, and beyond.
We've finally been getting some rain here in the Bay + us moving deeper into darkness, I have def been feeling the wrapped up like a burrito in a soft blanket with candles and bunny cuddles kind of vibezzz.
Incase you're on the same wave-length I've put together this list for you:
Here are 5 favorite podcasts for each FPJ Key Channel of Change:
FPJ Key Channel of Change: Becoming Embodied
Embodied Astrology with Renee Sills:
This is a monthly podcast where Renee provides horoscopes for each Zodiac sign whenever it is a new zodiacal season. Now of course there are heeelllllllaaaaaaaa astrological season ahead forecasts out there in the land of content, so the reason I LOVE this podcast and Renee's approach is because it is somatic. She speaks about the birth chart as a body and offers practices for embodied integration of the themes of the season. It's encouraged to listen to both your rising and your sun sign (If you don't know your rising sign, you can plug in your birth info to her chart maker here). My main takeaway from Scorpio seasons energy is grab those rounding skills and have a pillow nearby you can punch because there's quite volatile energy out and about, especially when it comes to communications.
FPJ Key Channel of Change: Tending Spirit
Stories of Scotland:
My ancestral healing teacher Erin Sweeney recommended this podcast when I was first starting my deepening into my McIntyre lineage - a Scottish Highlander clan. It features wildly interesting facts and mythologies of the Highlands and wonderfully hilarious theatrical storytelling from the queer brilliant duo that is Annie MacDonald and Jenny Johnstone. They release episodes 1-2 times a month, each featuring a different theme like Scottish Lighthouse Mysteries, the impacts of the Battle of Culloden, and Highland clan culture (battle cries, lands, folklore, and more). My favorite was learning about Cèilidh houses (#lifegoals), and they have an episode on Yule and Christmas if you're wanting to bring some of those traditions alive this coming season.
FPJ Key Channel of Change: Aligning Dreams
This Land:
When I was DEEP in Pod Save America, I was introduced to this incredible documentary podcast created by Rebecca Nagel an indigenous writer, activist and speaker, citizen of Cherokee nation. There are two seasons and both details the ways in which land, colonization and politics have forever impacted indigenous peoples of Turtle Island. I learned A LOT. Like an embarrassing amount of a lot, but that's probably my white fragility part speaking. Regardless, the harms of the past are the harms of today and Rebecca does some serious magic weaving to articulate all the complexities and nuances. Most of all, the way she speaks about the land is deeply moving and grounding.
[ As an aside - I had to stop listening to "The Pod" because I couldn't handle the cognitive dissonance anymore between their talks of anti-racism while simultaneously participating in diet culture - borderline orthorexia beliefs (slash just having to listen to their weird *cough sad* cis white dude fatphobia / body shame was not what I needed in my life) #overit ]
FPJ Key Channel of Change: Breaking Cycles
Multiamory:
This podcast has literally over 300 episodes and they are each so unique, so fucking helpful and beautifully mind-blowing. I recommend this one to almost all of my psychotherapy clients at some point or another as its all about relationships! But what's SO GOOD about this relationship pod is that it actually centers non-traditional relationship structures whether its polyamory, relationship anarchy, and more. Their episodes really showcase how non-traditional ways of relating to one another have SO MUCH to teach to the overwhelming heteronormative often steeped in religious dogma monogamous structures and modern day dating rules many find themselves in. They don't preach one over the other because that's not even the point. This podcast shows us the breadth, depth, and joy that comes with being a human trying to find meaningful, loving, fun connection without hurting oneself or another. I like to go on their website and use their search bar for anything relationship related because there are just SO MANY episodes, but some fav topics you can search for are the relationship escalator and relationship anarchy. Have fun!
FPJ Key Channel of Change: Freeing Expression
Unobscured:
This history storytelling podcast is my favorite for this time of the year. I was first introduced to it by a powerful Oakland-based witch Cassaspell while she was giving me a stick n poke tattoo for my 30th solar return (a week before shelter in place started…WILD). She recommended it because I shared how one of my ancestors was a spiritualist, and in an ancestral channeling circle she told me in the first sentence I wrote down that I am a witch and my coven are those who can be in the light and dark. MAGIC. And that's what this podcast is, magic without intending to be. Each season dives into a particular historical period and goes moment by moment on what went down. Season 1 details the Salem Witch Trials, and Season 2 details the Spiritualist Movement. There's also a season 3 for Jack the Ripper and season 4 for Grigori Rasputin, but I haven't gotten to those quite yet. I just love Aaron Mahnke's bardic voice. So good for stories and settling into the night.
